TreoSystems Helps Customers Find Items Fast in Food Lionís New Bloom Store

Product Locator one of new featured technologies to enhance the shopping experience

CHARLOTTE, NC, May 27, 2004 Ė With the opening of itís new Bloom concept store in Charlotte, Food Lion LLC has teamed with TreoSystems, Inc. to offer shoppers an innovative tool to help them find the products they want easily.

Using TreoSystemsí iPAL product locator software, Bloom shoppers can use state-of-the-art technology to locate any item quickly by simply touching any one of the many information displays prominently placed throughout the new store.

"Bloom will test some of the proven leading-edge technologies in the retail industry," said Robert Canipe, Food Lion vice president of business strategy. "The objective behind the technologies is to enhance the shopping experience and help customers find products, get information and check out with greater ease".

"We want to offer hassle-free shopping solutions and a retail experience customers will appreciate," Canipe added.

Bloom is the first supermarket in the nation to offer the iPAL product locator system for its shoppers.

By selecting an item from a general product listing, the iPAL system instantly displays exactly where to find it, along with a store map highlighting both the customerís current location and the location of that item. To find a specific or more unique product, an on-screen keyboard can be used to type in a partial name or description and iPAL again displays a store map with the productís exact location. Using either approach, shoppers are able to find virtually any product they want quickly and efficiently.

"Todayís consumers are very open to using self-service applications if they know it can help them," said Robert Johnson, TreoSystemsí co-founder and chief executive officer, "and we developed iPAL to be an extremely powerful yet simple-to-use tool to do just that. Weíre excited to be partnering with Food Lion to help provide the highest level of customer service and convenience at these new stores."

Bloom will be a new brand under the Food Lion LLC banner, which operates more than 1,200 stores in 11 states. Following the first store opening on May 26, four other pilot stores will open in the greater Charlotte area before the end of 2004.
